What is NEAG?

NEAG Alternatives to Violence is dedicated to the repulsion of violence and to alternative ways for conflict resolution, both in the Netherlands and abroad. We do so by means of our own activities and also within the framework of People Building Peace Netherlands, a network of a great number of organisations working together for a culture of peace and nonviolence.

Our starting point is the conviction that conflicts are a part of everyday’s life. What matters is the question of how to avoid that these conflicts are fought out by violent means. There are several methods of peaceful conflict resolution and NEAG aims at promoting these alternatives. By giving insight in the root causes of the conflict and by providing the skills to handle them. This applies to conflicts in the personal environment, at home, in the neighbourhood, at school or on duty. It also applies tot the bigger conflicts in the world we are confronted with through the media.

An important aspect of our work is the international civil peace work. NEAG Alternatives to Violence is the Dutch affiliate of Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP). We are giving publicity to the peace missions NP carries out in Sri Lanka and the Philippines. We also contribute to the recruitment and training of peace workers. And we lobby in The Hague and Brussels for more government support for unarmed civil peace missions.
